How do you recognise really good quality towels?

You can feel quality. But what do you really pay attention to with bath textiles?

Towel weight (g/m²)

The weight of a towel is expressed in grams per square metre (g/m²). This figure says something about the density of the fabric. The higher the grammage, the fuller and heavier the towel feels.

Towels with a grammage of 500-600 g/m² are often considered hotel quality. Due to the denser weave, they are thicker, more absorbent and usually more durable in use. They absorb more moisture and retain their shape and structure longer.

A 600 g/m² towel made of 100% cotton therefore offers a good balance between comfort, absorbency and firmness.

The material: cotton is not just any cotton

Not every cotton towel feels the same. The quality of cotton is determined by the length and strength of the fibres. The longer the fibre, the softer and more durable the final product. Shorter fibres wear out faster and can feel harder over time.

High-quality towels often use combed cotton. During this process, short and weaker fibres are removed, leaving only the strongest and smoothest fibres. This ensures a softer feel on the skin as well as a longer lifespan.

Certifications can also say something about the quality of the material. OEKO-TEX® guarantees that textiles are free of harmful substances. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) also sets strict requirements for organic cultivation and fair production. So those who choose certified cotton not only choose comfort, but also consciously opt for sustainability.

The finish betrays quality

Real quality is often in the details. Look at the seams of a towel, for example. Are these finished neatly and firmly? Double-stitching adds strength and makes the towel more resistant to frequent washing. That means less fraying and a longer lifespan.

The hanging loop is also more than just a practical detail. When securely attached and placed on the long side, the towel keeps its shape nicely when hanging to dry.

How does a towel stay beautiful for a long time?

The lifespan of a towel depends not only on the material, but also on careful use. High-quality bathroom textiles retain their shape, density and softness visibly longer, even after frequent washing.

Those who consciously opt for quality will notice that a good towel not only feels pleasant to the touch, but also remains visibly longer-lasting.

‘True quality proves itself not in words, but in use.’

Choose consciously. Feel the difference.
